Cappadocia Rose and Clay Ritual | Hamam Care in Üsküdar - Rituelle Spa. Kese, foam and a mineral-rich Cappadocia clay and rose mask in a traditional Turkish hamam on Istanbul's Anatolian side.

The Cappadocia rose and clay ritual adds a mineral-rich natural clay and rose step to the classic Turkish hamam sequence. Clay from the volcanic soil of Cappadocia draws away what has gathered on the surface of the skin, while the soft, familiar scent of rose gives the ritual a distinctly Anatolian character.

At Rituelle Spa in Üsküdar this ritual is designed for guests who want an extra care step after the kese and foam. It is a calm option on the Anatolian side of Istanbul for anyone seeking freshness and smoothness in their skin, or simply wanting to stay in the hamam a little longer.

How the ritual unfolds

The ritual follows the traditional hamam order, extended with the clay mask step.

  • Warming on the navel stone: You rest on the heated marble. Heat and humidity open the pores and prepare the skin for what follows.
  • Water pouring: Warm water is poured from the basin with a bowl, balancing the warmth.
  • Kese exfoliation: Dead skin is gently lifted with a single-use mitt, at a pressure matched to your sensitivity.
  • Foam: Warm, dense foam from natural soap wraps the whole body and the wash is performed with broad rhythmic movements.
  • Cappadocia clay and rose: The clay mask is applied to the freshly prepared skin and left to settle for a while, as the scent of rose mixes with the warm air of the hamam.
  • Rinsing: The clay is rinsed away completely with warm water, the temperature balanced gradually.
  • Resting: Wrapped in a dry peştemal, you rest. Drinking water here replaces what you lost through sweating.

All materials, including the peştemal, kese mitt and slippers, are single-use.

Frequently asked questions

What do you wear in a hamam, is a swimsuit required?

A single-use peştemal wrap and slippers are provided. Whether you wear swimwear underneath is entirely up to you; the ritual works comfortably either way.

Does clay dry the skin, is it suitable for sensitive skin?

The clay stays on the skin for a set time and is then rinsed away completely. A slight tightness afterwards is normal and a moisturiser balances it. If your skin is very sensitive or you have a known allergy, let us know beforehand and we will adapt the ritual accordingly.

Does the kese scrub hurt?

No, because it is applied only after the skin has warmed and softened on the navel stone. The pressure is adjusted to you, and if it feels uncomfortable you only need to say so.

What should I be careful about afterwards?

Your skin remains more sensitive for a while after exfoliation and clay. Avoid waxing, shaving, strong peeling products, perfumed products and long sun exposure on the same day. Drink plenty of water and moisturise your skin.
